While waiting for my tutor’s feedback, I looked at exercises 2 and 3 and gathered pieces I had created for this unit. However, there was some delay with the feedback, and as I needed to progress with the course, I decided to reflect on the work I had done in Part 4.
Your visual approach to the theme. Would you change it now?
I hesitated between styles, and, after some experiments, I opted for coloured illustrations with black outlines. I would not necessarily change this as I am happy with the outcome, but it could have been interesting to create an illustration without black lines, although possibly more challenging as the contrast would have to be right.
The research you undertook. What did you learn?
After reading my tutor’s feedback for part 3, I noticed how I was not always linking the research to my practice in an effective way. For this project, every time I looked at the work of an artist, I looked for specific elements that could be a source of inspiration.
The creative and material processes. For example, if you made a group of paintings, what were their strengths and weaknesses?
I like how some of the scenes are more dynamic because of interesting perspectives. On the other hand, the way I assembled the different scenes does not always work. I am very interested in collages, but I am still learning how to combine different elements to create a good composition. I focussed on the contrast and the colour palette, but I can still improve these aspects.
What would you have done differently?
I would consider how to integrate the different elements better and consider the whole as a scene rather than multiple ones that could be assembled later.
Was the scale of the work appropriate to the ideas?
Because I worked digitally, I had a lot of flexibility regarding the format.
The whole project took longer than expected and I had less time for the last scenes. I need to learn to manage my time better and be more realistic regarding what I can achieve.
