Project 3: Update Feedback Point #7

After carrying out some research about editorial illustrations and deciding on a brief (www.catherinerouxillustrationdegree.uk/illustration-year-3/project-3-make-connections-and-create-a-series-of-editorial-illustrations/project-3-update-feedback-point-6/), I looked at sketches I had created about Greenwich as part of a previous exercise (https://catherinerouxillustrationdegree.uk/illustration-year-2/responding-to-a-brief/assignments/assignment-two/).

I then walked around the area and took pictures of places I was interested in for various reasons (it could be a viewpoint or an element I could insert in an illustration). Below are a few examples:

I then created fast sketches while looking at the pictures I had taken. I find that it is a good way to find inspiration especially with sketches of people. Below are some of the sketches I created.

Work in progress

After creating some thumbnails, I started to work on Illustration #1. The perspective in this drawing is quite difficult to render accurately with the rounded stairs. However, I have realised how much I enjoy drawing complex buildings with interesting perspectives and patterns, and I think that it is worth spending a bit more time to capture the curves of the architecture. I wanted to make sure that the proportions were right before adding characters.

I now have a good idea of how I want to proceed with this project (the illustrations I want to create and the styles I am interested in). However, I want to leave some space for exploration if I feel that a technique works better than another to obtain the right outcome.
