Everyday Sketching – Update Feedback Point 7

Since my last submission, I have carried on sketching on a regular basis.

I have tried to create smaller drawings when I work with watercolour, and I have enjoyed it. It means that I can create a sketch with ink and watercolour even when I do not have a lot of time at my disposal. It is also easier to stay focussed and to experiment with colours. This exercise will be beneficial when I create larger drawings with watercolour.

I have carried on using coloured paper as it encourages me to concentrate on contrast. This is very helpful when I create full illustrations.

I am still drawing fast sketches during my commute. At times, I have managed to let go a bit more and to focus on the energy and movement rather than precision (#2 and 3 for instance). It is interesting to look at these sketches with some hindsight. At the time, I was not sure that this was very useful, but I think that it is a very good exercise to let go and develop some fluidity in my drawing. Sometimes the outcome is very messy and not very successful (#6) but that should not deter me from persevering.

At times, the person might have moved and I play with the sketch and elaborate without trying to achieve a realistic result (#7).

As a next step, I would like to focus on fast sketches to capture movement and keep using coloured paper and watercolour. These exercises are complementary and help me with contrast, fluidity in drawing and use of colours.
