Since the last submission, I have not made much progress with the project that consists in sketching every day. Between my holiday and the fact that I needed to concentrate on the literature review, I have struggled to find the time and concentration. I intend to reset my routine and start sketching at least 5 times a week. I would like to focus on two different techniques: fast sketches with black pen and watercolour and sketches on brown and black paper. The first exercise helps me to be more confident and spontaneous when I draw and the second one is very useful to identify strong areas of contrast.
As part of my last project (see following link for more details: https://catherinerouxillustrationdegree.uk/illustration-year-3/project-3-make-connections-and-create-a-series-of-editorial-illustrations/project-3-update-feedback-9/), I have created a new illustration about a grasshopper that is contemplating a coin with the portrait of the queen. The idea is to emphasise the contrast in terms of past and present and big and small.

I have also started experimenting with the first illustration through some sketches and a montage in Photoshop and would like to explore further the potential of the scene and look at the stories that could be told around the staircase.

These illustrations have taken a lot of time to complete, especially the first one as it is quite complex. I suspected that I would not complete the number of illustrations that I had planned originally. I knew that the plan was ambitious and that I might want to spend more time on some images and I was prepared to make some changes as I went along. Moreover, each illustration brings new thoughts, and, with such a project, it is important to be flexible to benefit from the exercise. I intended to experiment with different styles and processes, but I have merged techniques to a certain extent, and I find the outcome interesting. I will now reflect on what I wanted to explore, what I have achieved and what I would like to do next.
I had created a detailed plan for the dissertation proposal and literature review for the previous submission. I took into account my tutor’s feedback and wrote the review (attached with the current submission). I need to add the bibliography and reference my sources using the Harvard referencing. As mentioned before, I have never written a literary review, and I was often tempted to comment further on the subject and the sources, but I thought that I was in danger of writing ideas and deductions that should be in the dissertation instead.
