Project 1: Everyday sketching
I am still sketching nearly every day (https://catherinerouxillustrationdegree.uk/illustration-year-3/project-1-sketching/everyday-sketching-update-feedback-point-7/). It can be challenging to be consistent and find the motivation to create even a quick sketch at the end of a working day. It is useful to reflect regularly on my practice as it gives me the opportunity to analyse what works and what does not. For instance, when I looked at fast sketches I had created, I remembered how helpful this exercise can be to learn to let go and not control every line.
Project 3: Make connections and create a series of editorial illustrations
After taking some photos, drawing some sketches and thumbnails, I started my first illustration for project 3 (Make connections and create a series of editorial illustrations) (https://catherinerouxillustrationdegree.uk/illustration-year-3/project-3-make-connections-and-create-a-series-of-editorial-illustrations/project-3-update-feedback-point-7/). It helped a lot to discuss my approach to the project with my tutor as I can overthink what I plan to do. I now feel that, on one hand, I have a clear idea of what I would like to achieve, but, on the other hand, I am open to some exploration and to adapt a technique or a composition if this is the right thing to do. I will also make an effort to remind myself of my objectives on a regular basis. For instance, I would like to add more fluidity in my lines, and for this I need to relax and try not to control the outcome so much as mentioned previously.
I mean to apply the knowledge I have acquired as part of my initial research and enjoy the process of creating these illustrations.
Dissertation and Literature Review (https://catherinerouxillustrationdegree.uk/illustration-year-3/dissertation-and-literature-review/dissertation-and-literature-review-update-feedback-point-7/)
I have created a mind map as suggested by my tutor. I have included all the thoughts and questions I had and comments I read on the subject that could be useful. This has enabled me to have a better idea of the topics covered in the reading materials I had gathered. I will now refine the plan and write a draft.
I have also realised that, in a sense, I was unconsciously thinking of writing the dissertation as the next step rather than the literary review as I am not familiar with literary reviews. I have done some research on how to approach the exercise. I will probably have to look at it again to make sure that I do not only list what I have read, or write a summary of the dissertation rather than the literary review.
